The Currently Reading Book Tag was created by Charly Reynhorse, but I found it on Chocolate’n’Waffles. It looked like fun, so I though I would give it a try. [Also I have no book reviews to post since I’m in a bit of a reading slump.]
How many books do you usually read at once?
It’s usually on a sliding scale of 1 to 3 , and occasionally up to 4 when I decide to be dumb and spread myself thin across books.
If you’re reading more than one book at a time, how do you decide when to switch to reading the other book (do you read a certain amount of pages in each?)
HA. Nope. Since we here, at Words About Words, are huge mood readers, you know that I totally switch books based off on my reading mood and whether a story is picking up or slowing down. Gotta keep it a little chaotic.
Do you ever switch bookmarks while you’re part way through a book?
This implies I read enough physical books to actually own an assortment of bookmarks (which I don’t), but when I do, I usually just stick to whichever one I picked at the beginning.
Where do you keep the book(s) you’re currently reading?
On my nightstand or in my purse if I’m not at home. My “next to read” mini-stack sits on the non-book-bookcase which is also near my bed. I guess I just like having something to read within reach when I’m in bed.
What time of day do you spend the most time reading?
Honestly, it varies by when I can find the time. I feel like my peak reading hours are probably in the 6 pm to 2 am range? My internal clock is beyond wack at this point.
How long do you typically read for in one go?
Again, it depends on the amount of time I can scrape together. If a book is really good though, I can lose myself for a couple of hours before I check on the real world again.
Do you read hard covers with the dust jacket on or off?
Off! On! Both? My white hardbacks get special consideration because I’m always worried about leave fingerprint smudges on their pristine white expanses. All other color hardbacks get read without dust jacket though.
Which position do you mainly use to read?
I feel like I can’t answer this because I’ve mostly been listening to audiobooks the last two months and all of those I listened to while sitting at a sewing machine. But, like I read a lot in bed? So, laying down, I guess.
Do you take the book you’re currently reading with you everywhere you go?
Well, of course. But that’s much easier to do nowadays with audiobooks and my kindle. I did used to carry a physical book with me everywhere when I was in high school, and later in college (really great for gaps in your schedule).
How often do you update your progress in the book you’re currently reading on Goodreads?
I update when I feel I’ve made a “significant” amount of progress, which varies by format. For things measured in percentages, it’s usually every 15-30%, and for page count, it’s usually every 60-100 pages.
What are your reading habits?
