Since this blog is participating in ARC August (see our TBR post here), I thought this would be a good way to update my progress on which books I’ve been working on. Also, I feel like I might be heading out of my book slump and I’m excited to have books to talk about again!!
This tag hosted on Taking on a World of Words, and it’s super easy to do. Just answer the three W’s.
The Three W’s are:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

I’m currently binging these two ARCs. You Had Me At Hola by Alexis Daria in ebook format, and The Switch by Beth O’Leary in NetGalley’s new audiobook format. You Had Me At Hola follows the two stars of ‘Carmen In Charge’, a popular telenovela reboot, during the filming of the show. Things heat up between Jasmine and Ashton as the line between script and reality begins to blur and their attraction grows. And that’s as far as I’ve gotten…Honestly, I’m so hooked by Hola that in every empty moment I find my hand edging towards my kindle. The Switch on the other hand is a completely different vibe. Lena and her grandmother each need a change of pace, so they switch lives. À la The Holiday. Lena moves into her grandmother’s idyllic country cottage for two months of ‘rest,’ while her grandmother takes up holding in Lena’s London flat to search for love in a bigger pond. It’s quite cute and wholesome most of the time. I am intensely enjoying both, while they bring very different things to the table.
Just Finished:
As a fan of Aminah’s other two books, it was unfortunate that I didn’t love This is All Your Fault. She normally writes such great girl gangs, but in this one it takes until almost 70% for them to stop fighting each other and instead rally for the store. It was with the reading of this book that I realized I am not a fan of the “limited time/countdown” trope. Every moment is overly saturated with meaning or importance and it makes the plot drag. I thought I might have enjoyed this book since it was a “bookstore version” of the movie Empire Records. But I should have known If I didn’t enjoy the movie, it was unlikely that I was going to like a similarly worked story.
Up Next:
Tree has been sending me messages about Written in the Stars all throughout her read, and now I’m seriously eyeing picking it up next. It’s an #ownvoices queer rom-com with fake dating, and really, what else do you need in a book? Also, there’s a bunch of P&P references strewn about, so there’s that. I tend to burn through romance novels quite fast, so I’m excited to keep the streak up with this one!
Happy reading! What are you binging?
xoxo, Bree
