I apologize for doing another WWW Wednesday post so soon. Between Labor Day throwing off my mental calendar and figuring out how WP’s new editor works, I seem to be running behind schedule. And anyways, I’m reading completely different books now.

Currently Reading:

I’m currently listening to the audiobook of From Lukov with Love with my boyfriend, Q. I’m really enjoying the reread and can I just say, damn does Mariana Zapata write a good slowburn. Ivan and Jasmine are just so feisty and sparky and I forgot how much it entertains me when they volley barbs back and forth. Also, Jasmine’s entire family is one giant gem. I really need to get around to finishing the rest of Mariana Zapata’s catalog (instead of just rereading all the faves). You can check out Tree’s full review of Lukov here. 

Just Finished:

After a very long library wait, I have finally received and accidentally devoured Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You. Not that that’s my fault. I listened to this book via audiobook, and it’s a pretty quick listen at just over 4 hours long. Jason Reynolds breaks down Ibram X. Kendi’s Stamped From the Beginning into smaller digestible sections, making harsh concepts comprehensible for younger readers, or anyone really. His voice adds an extra layer to the story he’s telling and I look forward to listening to more of his books in the future. This book is accessible and very necessary. It should be required reading and I was disgusted to realize how grossly school textbooks have altered and omitted history. 

Up Next:

I’m planning on re-listening to The Poet X after an impulse library checkout. Honestly, once I returned Stamped my library app started taunting me with Elizabeth Acevedo, and I broke quite easily. With a background as an acclaimed slam poet, Elizabeth Acevedo records one heck of an audiobook. Especially when it’s a story told in prose! She is a master of language and performance. And I might have also checked out her other book, Clap When You Land. So I can experience that via audiobook too. (CWYL mini review here.)
