WEEKLY TAG: Top Ten Tuesday

After writing this list, it seems I’m all about the “spooky” books this season. Well, with some lighter material thrown in for a good balance. I also tried to select a mix of already published, and forthcoming Fall releases.

1. How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories by Holly Black

This list is not ranked, but How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories is definitely the book I’m most excited to read this Fall!! Like, a Cardan POV and a new after-QoN story?? SIGN ME UP. I mean, I already signed myself up when I preordered my copy almost two months ago.  But yes, HYPED. Even if it’s only 200 pages. *cries*

2. One by One by Ruth Ware

I’ve been on a slow Ruth Ware binge ever since Tree got a copy of In a Dark, Dark Wood at a bookswap last year & gave it her “thriller” seal of approval. I’m now at 3 out of 6 books down, and her new release has already caught my eye. It’s centers around a company-retreat gone wrong, after an avalanche traps them in a lodge up the mountainside. Lines get drawn in the snow, and the company hierarchy dissolves into survival-istic chaos.

3. The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab

IDK about you, but I am overly excited about this release! The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue sounds witchy and dark, and exactly like a V.E. Schwab original. It follows a girl who makes a Faustian deal to live forever, but in exchange is forgotten by time. Until one day she stumbles upon a boy in the back of a bookstore, and he remembers her name.

4. Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas

I have seen this book all over the internet and I am here for it. It sounds like a beautiful, magical mess filled with ghostly shenanigans. I can’t wait.

5. Spoiler Alert by Olivia Dade

I won an arc of Spoiler Alert in a Goodreads giveaway and I’m excited to dive in. It reminds me of Geekerella in a lot of ways, but if the fandom was Fantasy, instead of Sci-Fi? Also, it’s Romance so I know I’ll probably end up binging it and finishing it way too fast.

6. Rules for Vanishing by Kate Alice Marshall

This book has legit been on my TBR for a year, and I’m hoping that I get the chance to pick it up this spooky season, since I couldn’t last year. I’m a huge mood reader, so it seems very fitting to pick it up at this time of year.

7. The Dark Vault by Victoria Schwab

I am slowly working my way through Schwab’s catalog of books, and this chonk has been sitting on my shelf for a hot minute. As a big fan of Victoria Schwab’s entire vibe, I can’t wait to pick up another of her books. Especially when the first line of the synopsis is “Imagine a place where the dead rest on shelves like books.” Color me INTRIGUED.

8. A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik

I actually stumbled upon this book while putting together this list. And if I’m being completely honestly, this book caught my eye because the school in it is called the Scholomance. Sound familiar? It’s the named of the Shadowhunter institution Ty Blackthorn talks about in The Dark Artifices. They’re not related at all, but the connection was enough to catch my interest. Then the synopsis hooked me. A dark, deadly school of magic where failure means death. I really love books about witches and magic, so I’m quite looking forward to this book’s publication on September 29th!

9. Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

This book has been floating around my TBR since its release and I don’t know why, but its vibe seems perfect for Fall? At least if you go off the cover and its genre (horror).

10. Sorry I Haven’t Texted You Back by Alicia Cook

Alicia Cook is one of my favorite poets and I was recently blindsided with the fact her new collection will be out October 6th!! Also the fact that, with this collection, she’s bringing back her “remixed” poems, where she blacks out parts of her full-length poems to make a completely new, shorter poem. I can’t wait to pick up my copy.

Writing this list has made me realize that I really enjoy reading witchy/spooky/paranormal books during the Fall. I guess I’ve let my love of Halloween pollute my reading habits a little too much during this time of year.
