Happy 2021!

We miraculously made it to a new year, so we should probably make some new bookish resolutions. You can check out our goals from 2020 here.

BREE:

Last year’s goals ended up being a mixed bag, with some being being absolutely smashed and others being dead in the water very early on. I do have to say that I don’t feel bad about my 4/8 completion (because expectations were bleak from the beginning). So, whoo! Also, did not intentionally write 8 again this year…

• In 2020, I set a goal to utilizes my library more. Technically I succeeded in that with 70% of my reads being library loans, but I do want to continue to utilize my library in 2021. (Mostly for my audiobook binging needs.)
• For the last four years, I’ve bumped up my GR challenge goal by 10  books each year, just to challenge (ha) myself. So, this year I’m aiming to read at least 90 books (hopefully more).
• I have an affinity for audiobooks & tend to whip through them with ease, but this year I found myself missing the experience that is sitting down with a book and just losing yourself in it. So in 2021, I would like to find more time for physical reading, or maybe just have like “dedicated reading time” every week.
  • In addition, I would like to read more books I already own because I have so many unread books?? Sigh. One day I would like to have read 100% of the books I own, but until then…I can possibly unhaul some?
• Over the last few years I’ve worked on broadening my reading palette, and I would like to continue to expand it with even more inclusive material this year. I really enjoyed all the LGBTQIA+ stories I devoured, and look forward to finding even more favorites. (*Cough* Something to Talk About & Cemetery Boys)
• I made a lot of progress with my backlogged ARCs in 2020, and would love to continue that trend all the way to the coveted NetGalley 80% this year. (Lol Just to 80%, not higher. I’m not an overachiever.)
• My review writing was spotty this year, and I would like to write them more consistently going forward. Part of this is having a dedicated space to utilize for such tasks, which is another goal of mine…
• I would like to get my desk space set up for regular/dedicated use, thereby greasing the wheels on the review writing. Also, I’d like to set it up so that I can use it for other, more creatively inclined projects.
• This one isn’t necessarily bookish, but it is related to the above goal. I am hoping to spend more time in creative pursuits such as drawing, crafting, and working in digital mediums this year.

TREE:

If I am being honest I have no desire to look back at my 2020 goals. I made some of them and did not make a lot of time which is fine. Reading is my hobby and I don’t like to put tons of pressure on myself. But, I still like setting some goals. I just don’t get mad at myself if I don’t meet them.

• I made a list of 21 books on my physical TBR that if I do not read in 2021, I’ll unhaul.
  • Tbh need to prioritize my physical TBR
• Finish the third Shadow & Bone book because the TV show is coming in April
• Read more diversely.
  • I specifically want to read from more Latinx authors, LGBTQ+ authors, and more Asian authors.
• Read books that have been on my TBR for years.
• Try to read the books I acquired in 2020, but have not read yet.
• Be more intentional with my book buying (support diverse authors, shop at my local bookstores, only buy books I know I’m going to read soon, etc.)
