During Blogmas we shared the 2021 releases we are hyped for, but we aim to pick up a few backlist books this year as well. Plus, who doesn’t enjoy a good list? (Or two.)
Bree:
These are some of the books I had hoped to pick up in 2020, but ended up running out of time for. Honestly, I didn’t do much physical reading last year, and all of these are still sitting on my bedside waiting to be picked up. Hopefully 2021 will be their year. If not, there’s always 2022…right? *cries*
Chosen (Slayer #2) by Kiersten White
It’s weird to think I attended the in-person book tour stop for this all the way back in January 2020. It’s also weird to think that was a year ago. Anyways, I am determined to read this because I really love the expanded Buffy-verse idea, and the characters are great (even if I can’t exactly remember what happened to them in book 1).
Good Girl, Bad Blood by Holly Jackson [UK]
I was so determined to read the sequel to A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder (review here), that I went and preordered the UK edition. By the time it showed up a month later, I had lost most of the steam in my urgency sail. So to make it “worth” it, I’m hoping to read this before the US edition is published later this year. lol petty reading goals.
Revenge and the Wild by Michelle Modesto
I picked this up at Powell’s when Tree and I went to Oregon all the way back in 2016, and I guess I never got around to reading it. So when I recently re-found it in my library, I put it back on the TBR stack. This year could definitely use some cannibalistic steampunk western vibes.

I would like to finish the reread of the Lunar Chronicles I started with my boyfriend. We just started Cress, which is my favorite, and I can’t wait for the rest of the story.
Tree:
Well as you all know, I am terrible at TBRs of any sort. Thus, this list is for books that I own that I want to prioritize this year.
Ruin & Rising by Leigh Bardugo
I have been working on this series for a hot second. I adore the Six of Crows books, but this series just does not work for me. But, I want to finish it before the NETFLIX SHOW releases, for obvious reasons.
Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid
I’ve seen some mixed reviews about this one, from seeing it on “best of 2020” lists to “worst of 2020” lists, so I am interested to see where I fall. I don’t know much about it, but I picked up a used copy and I definitely want to get to it in 2021.
So You Want To Talk About Race by Ijeoma Oluo
This is another book I picked up a used copy of and want to get to asap. A bookstagram said it was really accessible and a good read. I also hope the title is literal because I sometimes struggle talking about race with those who are not open minded.
What backlist books are on your TBR?
xoxo, Bree & Tree
I want to read Such a Fun Age too – it will be interesting to see what you think!
