Summer is in full swing!! Time to avoid the heat by staying inside and reading all day!
We consume so many books in a month, that we don’t always get the chance to talk about all of our favorites. So, we’ve decide to set aside a monthly post specifically for talking about our favorite reads that would have otherwise flown under the radar.
Bree:
June was mostly a month of rereads for me, which is not great in terms of what I have to talk about today but it’s fine. I added a fifth reread of The Folk of the Air series to my count, which I very much enjoyed & needed. I also reread & caught up with the latest Shadowhunter drama in the The Last Hours trilogy by Cassandra Clare this month. Now speaking specifically about Chain of Iron, I enjoyed it much more than the first installment to this series, Chain of Gold. That’s likely just due to the uptick in pace of the plot, and finally having a grasp on entire new generation of Shadowhunters. Oh, and there’s much more Anna Lightwood, which is always a nice addition. The only other thing I read this month was a library loan for the first volume of the Food Wars manga. After watching the anime with my boyfriend, I found a copy on Libby and of course, had to cross-compare medias. It was really enjoyable to see the story in another format.
Tree:
Okay June has been a stellar reading month for me! Like seriously, I read three books that will probably be in my top reads of the year and another three that could be considered a favorite of the month. A sort of unspoken rule we have for these posts is we try to not talk about books that will be getting their own full review. So I won’t be talking about The Charm Offensive, The Love Hypothesis, & Check, Please. So another fave was She Drives Me Crazy by Kelly Quindlen. This is a YA contemporary romance that follows Scottie, a basketball player who is coming out of a toxic relationship. She ends up starting a fake relationship with a cheerleader who she hates. This was the perfect read to start Pride Month with. It’s super cute, fun, and a little campy (in the best way). The friends in this are also adorable and the best side characters I’ve read in a while. I will admit I’m a sucker for a basketball romances (I need more in my life) and just stories with basketball in them so I might have liked this more than the average person because I kept getting hyped when their was any basketball mention or games on page. Also, can we talk about how GORGEOUS this cover is???
What were some of your top reads this month?
