We weren’t tagged in this tag, but we came across it on JenJenReview’s page (last year lol) and wanted to give it a try! Check out their post here.
So, if you’ve been paying attention, you might have noticed that Tree has already done this tag. When we were planning this set of posts she might have forgotten that, but it’s fine cause were doing it anyways!! Because reading habits change and whatnot, right? Also, Bree hasn’t done it so fun times.
How do you keep track of your TBR?
Bree: I mostly keep tabs on which books I want to read through Goodreads. But due to the fact I’m a huge mood reader, I never manage to follow a TBR with any regularity. I will occasionally make a TBR stack of physical reads but the follow through is unfortunately low.
Tree: I don’t really track my TBR. I mark books on Goodreads, but then they get lost in the massive-ness that is my Goodreads Want to Read shelf. If I own the book, they all are shelved together on my TBR shelf.
Is your TBR mostly print or ebook?
Bree: My TBR is basically whatever electronic library loans decide to float my way. (Also, weather or not it meshes with the distinct reading vibe I’m looking for at the time.) Lately, it’s been a pretty even split of ebooks & audiobooks.
Tree: Honestly, whatever format I can get the book in first. I read a ton of ebooks from my library and some books I really want to to listen to the audio, but most of the time it depends. If we are talking for books that I own, it is mostly physical books.
How do you determine which book from your TBR to read next?
Bree: As stated above, I mostly read whatever library loan trickles through next, and whichever please the current state of my mood reader brain. I have also been been making a dedicated effort to working through the audiobooks I’ve bought with my monthly libro.fm subscription.
Tree: I read my book club picks and whichever library holds come in. I have very recently started going back to my library and picking up physical books. I also am trying to read some of the physical books I’ve owned for awhile, but that is not going well.
A book that’s been on your TBR the longest.
Bree: I’ll give you a two-for-one, the two books that have been on my Goodreads TBR the longest are, Fall of Night and Daylighters, books #14 & #15 in the Morganville vampire series. And they’ve been on there since 2013. I actually stand by these still being on my TBR, because I’m still interested how the events of the series play out, and I’ve been toting around physical copies in every move, since at least 2015. I also feel the need to double down on finishing this series because Rachel Caine lost her battle to cancer last year and it seems like a fitting tribute to do so.
Tree: I’ve been on Goodreads since 2013 and Persuasion by Jane Austen has been on my TBR since. I think I even own a copy somewhere.
A book that you recently added to your TBR.
Bree: After bingeing all three of the currently published volumes of the Heartstopper graphic novels by Alice Oseman, I recently added her newest title, Loveless, to my TBR. Also, the US cover is too cute, and I love that she designed it herself!!
Tree: I just added Battle Royal by Lucy Parker, There There by Tommy Orange, and Daring Greatly by Brené Brown.
A book that is on your TBR strictly because of its beautiful cover.
Bree: I mean, maybe not strictly, but specifically the UK version of Circe by Madeline Miller is on my TBR, because the undercover design is just too gorgeous for words. I am also a long time fan of Greek mythology, so maybe this isn’t just for how pretty it is.
Tree: I recently added Getting His Game Back by Gia de Cadenet solely because there is a basketball hoop on the cover and I want to read a good basketball romance. I know nothing about this author and have not seen any reviews so who knows when or if I’ll actually read it. But, BASKETBALL.
A book on your TBR that you never plan on actually reading.
Bree: I don’t think I actually have one of these? Every couple of years I go through my Goodreads TBR, and kind of purge the books I’m no longer interested in picking up. Gotta keep those reading ambitions within the realm of attainable.
Tree: I unhaul these books or try to remove them from my Goodreads Want To Read shelf.
An unpublished book on your TBR that you’re excited for.
Bree: I AM SO EXCITED FOR HELEN HOANG’S NEXT BOOK!!! The Heart Principle is set to release August 31st, 2021 and my copy has already been preordered. Honestly, I have been waiting for Quan to get a book since I read The Bride Test as an ARC back in 2019. AHHHH.
Tree: I really want to read Tessa Dare’s The Bride Bet but it doesn’t even have a pub date so we’ll be waiting a hot second.
A book on your TBR that basically everyone has read except you.
Bree: If The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo isn’t the book, then I don’t know what is. It’s not like I don’t want to pick it up, I just haven’t managed to yet?? Not to mention it is also one of Tree’s favorites, and TJR is also a favorite author of hers…
Tree: I’ve been meaning to finish the Throne of Glass series for YEARS. I read through book four, but have forgotten everything so reading the last few books would mean rereading books 1-4 which I don’t really want to do. So this will probably not happen.
A book on your TBR that everyone recommends to you.
Bree: By everyone, I’m just going with Tree, but for the last several weeks all she been yelling at me about has been The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood. Honestly, you should see her get on a roll about it, and I’m planning on picking it up just as soon as it releases September 14th.
Tree: No one has specifically recommended this book to me, but I’ve seen so many people yelling in general that people should read Felix Ever After by Kacen Callender that I am going to take it as a personal recommendation.
A book on your TBR that you are just dying to read.
Bree: I recently picked up the newest addition to the Truly Devious series, The Box in the Woods. I’m quite excited to see what the gang is up to in this standalone mystery. Also, after some review snooping, I’ve learned that the character issues that bothered my in the last book, are not a problem in this one. So, yay!!
Tree: I really want to get around to One Last Stop before summer is over!!
The number of books on your Goodreads TBR shelf.
Bree: Currently it’s at 846, which seems like a lot? But I also know is nothing in comparison to some people’s shelves. Seems unlikely that I’ll ever finish them all.
Tree: I’m at 1215 as of July 16, 2021. Can’t wait for more books to be published so this list never gets shorter!!
Thanks for reading!
xoxo, Bree & Tree
I will never get tired of seeing that edition of Circe!
