AUGUST SLIPPED AWAY INTO A MOMENT IN TIME.
Anyways. We hope you all had a lovely summer. Here in Southern California, we have another month of summer as September is basically a continuation of the season. But we’ll pretend cooler days are ahead!!
We consume so many books in a month, that we don’t always get the chance to talk about all of our favorites. So, we’ve decide to set aside a monthly post specifically for talking about our favorite reads that would have otherwise flown under the radar.
Bree:
August was such a weird reading month for me. In an attempt to coerce myself into actually reading titles off my ARC August TBR, I tried to stop myself from getting distracted with too many non-ARC titles. Meaning when I failed to actively attack my TBR, I ended up reading (or rereading) a lot of graphic novels this month. Basically, I don’t really have any specific book I’d like to talk about here. So, I’m just going to mention all the graphic novels/rereads I enjoyed this month!
I am actively burningly way through all the My Hero Academia manga, and binged volumes 20-23 this month. I am really not excited for the day I catch up on all the back volumes of this series and have to wait for weekly comic drops. This month I also reread Heartstopper Volume Three for the third time, and then I happened to get to binge Volume Four immediately afterwards. I’d like to Thank Alice Oseman for posting the Heartstopper comics weekly online & for keeping them all up on tapas, even once the series was picked up by a publisher and organized into volumes. Lastly I reread A Bad Day for Sunshine by Darynda Jones, in preparation of my read of book two, A Good Day for Chardonnay, which came out on July 27th. I’m almost done with book two and I’m slightly traumatized and waiting to hear if there’s a third book coming in this series. (Okay, I just checked Goodreads, and they have added book three!! Its title is A Hard Day for a Hangover!!)
Tree:
August started strong (in regards to reading) for me! I went on vacation and read a lot!! Then I sort of slowed down (at least for me) and read a ton of fan fiction instead of books so that was a fun time. My favorite this month was Rosaline Palmer Takes the Cake by Alexis Hall. Last moth I read Boyfriend Material by him (and loved it so much) and knew I had to read his latest. Rosaline Palmer follows a single mom (Rosaline) who enters a baking competition a la “The Great British Bake Off”. It’s a romance, but it’s main focus is Rosaline doing something for herself outside of her daughter and learning to be okay with the life she has created. Fair warning, there is a love triangle which typically isn’t my favorite, but it worked here because it really added to Rosaline’s journey. I read this on vacation and if I had not been exhausted/ so busy I would have finished this a lot quicker. Also shoutout to Instructions for Dancing by Nicole Yoon and Forbidden by Karla Sorensen which could have also been picked as my favorite for this month.
What were some of your top reads this month?
xoxo, Bree & Tree
