This week’s #5OnMyTBR prompt is Halloween Freebie, so we decided to interpret that as “spooky books.” Which is a lovely, vast category that we intend to exploit.
This weekly tag was started by @LocalBeeHuntersNook, and it happens every Monday! You can find additional info and future prompts here.
Also, we are doing BLOGTOBER!! Since we are both pretty busy we did not participate for the whole month, but will be posting once a day for the rest of October! Hope you enjoy the posts we have planned!
Bree:
These are spooky-adjacent books that are already on my TBR, since I don’t tend to seek out the newest or most spookiest of books with any frequency. I am also working my way through the rest of Ruth Ware’s back catalog. I have The Woman in Cabin 10, and the Turn of the Key left (until her next release).
- Horrid by Katrina Leno
- House of Hollow by Krystal Sutherland
- The Taking of Jake Livingston by Ryan Douglas
- Velvet Was the Night by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
- What Big Teeth by Rose Szabo
Tree:
I don’t really gravitate towards spooky books, but here are a few on my TBR that I have been meaning to get to for a hot second! One of them is my IRL Book Club’s pick for October so I really need to get on that!
- Verity by Colleen Hoover
- The Death of Mrs. Westaway by Ruth Ware
- Allegedly by Tiffany D. Jackson
- The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black
- The Final Girl Support Group by Grady Hendrix
What spooky books are on your TBR?
xoxo, Bree & Tree
I read Horrid and liked it a lot! & I can’t wait to read House of Hollow, it’s one of my most anticipated of the year! 😍

Glad to hear good things about both books!! I’m excited to pick up both. They each sound delightfully dark.
