BLOGTOBER DAY FIVE: The Hyped for Halloween Book Tag

We came across this tag over on Golden Books Girl, and we thought it looked like a fun enough (and fitting enough) tag to add to our Blogtober lineup! Check out her post here.

1. What book gave you the creeps?

Bree: Not Even Bones by Rebecca Schaeffer definitely left me more than a little squeamish.

Tree: Little Monsters by Kara Thomas creeped me out!

2. What book gives you the best Halloween vibes?

Bree: Pumpkinheads by Rainbow Rowell & Erin Faith Hicks gives off the best October vibes because the entire story takes place at a pumpkin patch, but The Halloween Tree by Ray Bradbury gives off the most accurate ~Halloween~ vibes. Listening to the audiobook definitely left me feeling like my brain had been put through the wash with too many Halloween costumes.

Tree: Hmmmm

3. What’s your favorite vampire book?

Bree: I have to says The Morganville Vampire series by the late Rachel Caine! I love her take on vampires and the weird little parasitic Texas town set up these book have going on.

Tree: Honestly I cannot remember the last time I read a vampire book, but I really loved the Bloodlines series when I read them in college.

4. What book scared you so much you had to sleep with the light on?

Bree: I don’t know about truly scaring me, but anytime I finish one of Ruth Ware’s books I’m always a little more skittish about walking around in the dark…like in my own house, at night. Yes, I have an over-active imagination.

Tree: I can’t sleep with the lights on, but As Good as Dead by Holly Jackson messed me up a bit. I even had a nightmare two nights after I finished the book that literally scared me so much I woke up. I’m not saying finishing that book and the nightmare are related, but I’m not not saying that.

5. What’s your favorite book about witches/goblins/ghosts/demons?

Bree: I absolutely loved Undead Girl Gang by Lily Anderson! It has a nice balance of witch to zombie (lol) that totally plays out in a way you’re not expecting when you read that sentence.

Tree: I don’t really read books with any of those (lol). I did enjoy the first Discovery of Witches book, but never finished the series. But, I’m going to break the rules and mention a TV show because Julie and the Phantoms has ghosts and has taken over my life. I even did the Julie and the Phantoms Book Tag.

6. What book do you wish was scarier than it was?

Bree: From what I can remember, Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia was quite creepy, but a tad slow? I guess I could have used a little more high-stakes thrill. Still a stellar read though!!

Tree: NONE.

7. What’s your favorite book that takes place in October?

Bree: I don’t know if I’ve ever read (& remembered) a book that specifically takes place in October, but a book I’m excited to read that specifically takes place in October is Midnight Spells Murder by Mary Angela!!

Tree: Have I ever paid attention to a season while reading? Technically The Scorpio Races takes place in October even though the opening line mentions November. I really associated this book with November (I reread it every year), but it takes place in October with the actual race being the first of November.

Thanks for reading!

xoxo, Bree & Tree
