This post is going up horrendously late today, and I’m not sure you can still qualify today as a Wednesday really. But I was on the cusp with one book and wanted to wrap it up before posting this update, mostly for my own piece of mind. Then I also picked up another new book so *shrugs* oh well. What can a mood read do?
This tag hosted on Taking on a World of Words, and it’s super easy to do. Just answer the three W’s.
The Three W’s are:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?
Currently Reading:
I literally just started Emma Lord’s latest book, When You Get the Chance, which I happened to receive an ARC of through NetGalley. Three chapters in, I can say this absolutely SCREAMS Emma Lord. I feel I can weigh in on this fairly because I’ve followed her on most social media since I read her debut back in 2019. Check out my review of said debut, Tweet Cute, here. I also reviewed her sophomore novel, You Have a Match earlier year, check it out here. So the least I can say is I’m very excited to be back in a slightly wacky Emma-written world. There is already a heavy emphasis on sweets, *cough* ice cream, so I know I’m in for a delicious read.
Just Finished:
In the way the great Jenny Han once referred to Always and Forever, Lara Jean as “dessert,” (AKA fluffy, fun, extra & delicious, but not technically necessary) the sentiment is quite aptly applied to the post-epilogue edition to the Truly Devious series, The Box in the Woods. It was a fun reprisal of the characters and the reckless mystery-solving crew, but I’m not sure I was overly invested in the plot. I figured out the ‘who’ behind it all, long before I figure out the ‘why’ or ‘why should I care.’ I would be interested to see Maureen Johnson turn this series in to a regular “solve a crime, a book” but I can’t see that happening. Honestly just give me a spin of with Nate and Stevie getting in to hijinks.
Up Next:
Technically The Ravens by Kass Morgan & Danielle Paige is up next on my to-read rotation. Due to me finding an ARC of The Monarchs in a LFL recently. So to justify taking it I have to, of course, immediately begin reading book 1. But in writing this post (and seeing C.G. Drews’ review on Goodreads), I might do something random and pick up Tweet Cute for a reread instead. We’ll see. Big mood reader energy here, apparently.
Happy reading! What have you been binging?
xoxo, Bree
I’ve been meaning to read The Ravens for so long now that it’s not even “meaning to”, it’s just actively not reading it, hahaha.
