New Year, New Reading Update! I haven’t posted one of these since very early December, so I thought it would be a fun way to show what I’m starting my year off with! Especially since I know I will likely remember none of this month’s reads by the time we start writing round-up posts for Blogmas 2022. (Which is exactly the problem I just ran into with 2021 reads! Oops.)
This tag hosted on Taking on a World of Words, and it’s super easy to do. Just answer the three W’s.
The Three W’s are:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?
Currently Reading:
I am about 25% of the way into Certain Dark Things by Silvia Moreno-Garcia and I am interested to see where things are going, but I wouldn’t say I’m sold on the whole concept yet. This book is referred to as vampire noire, so like a detective crime novel but vampire-y?? Which I am totally here for (if it starts paying off soon). I will say that it definitely has the same gritty feel as all of the noire media I’ve consumed in the past. But please, more vampires & vampire action soon!! Additionally, I have to mention this gorgeous cover they created for the reprinting of this book! Truly a revelation!
Just Finished:
I just finished up with my read of A Lot Like Adiós by Alexis Daria, and while I enjoyed it, I don’t think I loved it as much as You Had Me At Hola. Maybe it’s because I’ve been in a weird reading headspace? Maybe I just prefer a slowburn romance to a second chance romance? Whatever it was, this book just didn’t hit for me. Don’t get me wrong. I still quite enjoyed this book and the chemistry between the two characters was palatable. But the pacing just wasn’t there for me. Hopefully Alexis Daria will write another addition to the series soon and I can jump back in headfirst.
Up Next:
Looks like up next I will be reading The Naturals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, after seeing it mentioned on my Goodreads feed, not once, but twice!! Tree was one of the people, so clearly I’m going to enjoy it. I was also totally pulled in by the premise. It very much reminds me of key elements of the TV show Psych, but in a more serious, grittier, YA sense. I swiped the audiobook format of it from libro.fm with my monthly credit, so I can listen as soon as I’m done with my current read. Very excited!
Happy reading! What have you been binging?
xoxo, Bree
The Naturals sounds intriguing! I’ll have to add it to my tbr. I hope you enjoy it when you get to it!
