So on a recent trip down to San Diego I managed to visit not one, but two independent book stores!! Shoutout to my boyfriend to let me drag him all over the city for my bookish desires.
Mysterious Galaxy
So I hadn’t actually visited in-store before, since I mostly order through their website. This trip we made it a point I visit, and not only because I had $$ off coupon from their loyalty program. (I bought way more books in 2021 than I thought I did.) But also because they are a sci-fi and fantasy bookstore and my boyfriend is the exact demographic of their prospective customers. Anyways it was really cute and I enjoyed the range of books they carried.
Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall
I totally picked this up on impulse while I was in-store browsing and I don’t regret it for a second. It is honestly time for a reread, so I’m glad I have my own copy now. Also, look how pretty it is!! And I need to emotionally prepare myself for when Husband Material comes out later this year on August 2nd.
The Legend of Zelda: Legendary Edition, Vol. 1: Ocarina of Time Parts 1 & 2 by Akira Himekawa
This was also a complete impulse buy!! I saw it on the shelf and then it was in my arms. And then my brain very logically was like, “COVID times, you touch it, you buy it.” Oh no. But I have been reading a lot more graphic novel/manga content this last year, so much so that anything new & interesting is up for grabs. A I also a lifelong Zelda fan, so like collision of spheres and whatnot.
Verbatim Books
I think Verbatim might be my favorite used book store of all that I’ve visited. I mean the exterior is literally my favorite color! Not to mention what good finds I always manage to nab. It is a magical bookish place, and no trip to San Diego is complete with out a stop here.
Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo
I managed to find a hardcover copy in perfect condition! I have been hunting for exactly this for like a year. The undercover is so pretty and I loved the dual-perspective prose story telling!
Renegades by Marissa Meyer
I picked this up on a whim because I am a long-time fan of Marissa Meyer, especially the Lunar Chronicles, and I would like to read more of her writing even if I’m not sure the sci-fi is for me.
Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
This book is creepy and weird and I am glad to finally to own my own copy of it! Now I can finally reread it and maybe understand what the hell is going on this time!!
House of Many Ways by Diana Wynne Jones
I am slowly collecting the books in this series, so that I can one day read them all. I need all the Howl’s Moving Castle content I can scrap together.
Now Entering Adamsville by Francesca Zappia,
We are the Wildcats by Siobhan Vivian,
&
Ramona Blue by Julie Murphy
I actually picked this stack up on a previous trip to Verbatim but I thought I would include it here because why not? Also look how pretty the spines are!
What books have you added to your shelves recently?
xoxo, Bree
