BLOGMAS DAY EIGHT: The Superlative Book Tag

Hello! We’re back with a tag we created oh so long ago in 2020, and seems to have become a Blogmas tradition for us to include, The Superlative Book Tag. When we last filled it out, we used our 2021 reads to answer the prompts. We are back on our BS to do the same thing again this year! But with all our new reads from 2022! Honestly it’s always was quite fun to “sort” all our reads by “traits,” so really, don’t be surprised when it shows up again for Blogmas 2023.

RULES:

  • Link back to the creators, Tree & Bree @ WordsAboutWords & the original post
  • Interpret the superlatives in anyway you like, or even create your own.
  • Have fun!

BEST DRESSED: Favorite cover art

Bree: This feels like a cheater answer since it’s literally an art book but, The Art Journey of Lord Gris is so beautiful inside and out, and I’m so glad I supported her kickstarter all the way back in April!

Tree: I first became aware of We Deserve Monuments by Jas Hammonds because of the stunning cover and am happy to report that the novel itself was also stunning.

CUTEST COUPLE: best ship or favorite couple to read about (can be non canon, not together at the end of the book, etc.)

Bree: I absolutely love the Harley/Posion Ivy match up that has come out of the Harley Quinn: The Animated Series, and continued in The Eat.Bang!Kill. Tour comics run written by Tee Franklin!!

58772420. sy475

Tree: Georgie & Levi from Georgie, All Along are everything to me!! See my review here

BIGGEST FLIRT: A book with a good romance / a character that flirts with everyone

Bree: Lore Olympus by Rachel Smythe has both of these things actually. Hades & Persephone are too cute together (I ship them so hard), and like half of the gods are shameless flirts. Including but not limited to: Zeus, Ares, & Apollo.

57282218

Tree: So many!! But, The Governess Affair by Courtney Milan is so romantic. Loved this novella and I need to continue with this series in the new year.

MOST SCHOOL SPIRIT: A five star read

Bree: I really enjoyed I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy! It was such a surprise too since I’m not the biggest fan of nonfiction or memoirs.

59364173. sy475

Tree: One of my surprising reads of the year was Bend Toward the Sun by Jen Devon. See my review here

MOST ATHLETIC: A book that made your brain work out (a book that made you think)

Bree: When I was reading the Blue Period manga by Tsubasa Yamaguchi, all of its contents and storyline really challenged the things I had previously thought about art/artists/being good at art/how to get there/etc. It also taught me so many other things I had no idea about, like different art techniques and tools! I can’t wait for the remaining books in the series to come out.

52684608

Tree: When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi is a book that made me think about life and has stuck with me.

MOST LIKELY TO END UP ON A WHEATIES BOX: A book about sports or an athletic character

Bree: So my easy answer for this one would have been Check, Please!, but I used that for a different answer first (I did not answer these prompts in order lol). Oops. So instead I will go with Cheer Up: Love and Pompoms by Crystal Fraiser. The story follows two ex-friends who get re-thrown together when Annie is forced to join the cheer team, and need BeeBee’s help to “fit in” with the rest of the squad.

55711045

Tree: Lol this was harder than expected! Ronan from Beauty and the Baller used to play football and if I’m being honest probably had sponsorships in the book, but I don’t remember specifics.

MOST LIKELY TO SLEEP THROUGH CLASS: A book that was a bore

Bree: I wouldn’t say it was a bore, but  I definitely thought “why am I reading this” and “why is this happening” during my read of The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black. Thinking now, I probably should have just reread the Morganville Vampires books instead.

12813630

Tree: I DNF’d a lot of this year so most of the boring books I just stopped because life is too short for bad books!! But, I did read The Make Up Test by Jenny L. Howe for book club and it was just not good. I do still want to read more from her, but this novel was not a fave.

MOST ALL AROUND: A book that has a little bit of everything

Bree: There is so much going on in When You Get the Chance by Emma Lord. It is definitely a miss-mash of everything Emma loves: sparkles, desserts, musical theater, New York, broadway musicals and honestly, so much more. Check out my review of it here!

54306966

Tree: The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches is so cozy! It has a cute romance, chaotic children, witches, found family vibes, magic, and was just a joy to listen to on audio.

BEST SMILE: A charismatic character

Bree: Luc O’Donnell from Boyfriend Material / Husband Material by Alexis Hall is the most charismatic walking disaster I’ve ever read, and the only non-Alex that’s ever had chaotic-Alex energy.

58323892. sy475

Tree: Oliver from Everything For You is a total golden retriever character and I loved his personality.

BEST PERSON TO WALK BEHIND: Best undercover/end papers

Bree: Um I can count on one hand the amount of hardbacks I bought his year, and two hands for  physical books in general. Everything else was audiobooks or ebooks or library reads. Oops.

Tree: Once again, I read mostly ebooks and audiobooks and the books I read physically…I have no memory of end pages.

CLASS CLOWN: A book that made you laugh / a funny character

Bree: Angel from I Was Born For This had me cracking up, even when I definitely shouldn’t have been. Also, the narrators’ delivery was so perfect!!

59806121

Tree: Lease on Love had some excellent funny lines and it specifically reminded me of Sophie Kinsella’s books, but with millennial humor.

BEST PERSONALITY: A book you clicked with

Bree:  Something deep inside my brain reacted so strongly to Loveless by Alice Oseman. It felt like coming home, TBH.

55977956. sy475

Tree: I really loved Take the Lead by Alexis Daria that releases in the new year.

MOST LIKELY TO BE FAMOUS: A book that you would like to see adapted

Bree: I would absolutely love to see the Sunshine Vicram series by Darynda Jones adapted into a TV show!!

45046796. sy475

Tree: I would love to see I Kissed Shara Wheeler adapted!

MOST LIKELY TO BE A SOCCER MOM OR DAD: self explanatory

Bree: Jack & Bitty from the Check, Please! books by Ngozi Ukazu are definitely going to be Hockey DadsTM in the future, along with all their lovely Hockey Uncles (AKA the rest of the team).

41541435. sx318

Tree: I totally see Maggie and Silas from Maggie Moves On being sports parents.

MOST LIKELY TO BE BROUGHT HOME: A book you recommend all the time

Bree: Not that these books even need anymore word of mouth, but I feel like I shove the Heartstopper series by Alice Oseman in everyones face. Literally can’t stop myself from doing it. Check out my review of volumes 1-3 here!

52560239. sx318 sy475

Tree: So everyone is doing those “12 books by 12 friends” recommendations posts and the book I’ve been recommending the most is How the Word is Passed by Clint Smith.

MOST LIKELY TO SHOW UP AT THE REUNION AND SHOCK EVERYONE: A reread that was better the second time

Bree: TBH I only reread books when I already really liked them. So I don’t know if the second read was exponentially better, but I reread the first two Inheritance Games books in preparation for The Final Gambit release, and I guess they were both less traumatizing with out the cliffhangers between releases.

The Inheritance Games (The Inheritance Games, #1)

Tree: I already adored Luck of the Draw by Kate Clayborn, but I bumped it up to a five star read when I reread it this year. See my review here

CAMERA SHY: A good book with an ugly cover

Bree: I would’t say the cover of White Cat by Holly Black is ugly per say, but it very much has a cover from the era in was released in, if you know what I mean.

6087756

Tree: I haven’t read anything that has a truly ugly cover, but I am not a fan of the cover for Lauren Graham’s newest book, Have I Told You This Already the art is cute, but it’s so boring???

Thanks for reading!

xoxo, Bree & Tree
