FAVORITE READS OF THE MONTH: February

Happy March!

First of all the Harper Collins Union’s strike has been resolved! We are so happy that they were able to negotiate a new contract after 60+ days of being on strike. You can learn more here.

We consume so many books in a month, that we don’t always get the chance to talk about all of our favorites. So, we’ve decided to set aside a monthly post specifically for talking about our favorite reads that would have otherwise flown under the radar.

Bree:

February was an absolute garbage reading month for me. I had too much stuff going on and picked up the wrong (but really good), devastatingly dense book at the beginning of the month and couldn’t move on until I finished it. So that means I read two books this month, Begin Again (which I reviewed for Romance Week), and Gideon the Ninth which fascinated, and confused me in equal measures. So it’s really anyone’s guess which I’ll be talking about here… Just kidding. Gideon the Ninth messed me up on so many level. If you know, you know. Before reading I had seen it pitched online as “necromancing lesbians in space” so many times that now I can say yes, it is a hella accurate tagline. I just—all the skeletons?? And goth clothes?? And Gideon’s great big sarcastic mouth?? Also BIG dumbass energy!! AND MURDER???? It was great. Honestly there was so much going on that I know I won’t process everything until my second read, but I was a very entertained, if slightly lost. Oh and heartbroken too.

Tree:

February was a great reading month for me so choosing a fave was HARD so I mentioned a few! I read two romances that I adored and that I can’t stop thinking about. Hotel of Secrets got a full review on Saturday and Earth Bound  has one coming. Seriously loved these so much. I also want to mention Golden Boys which is a queer YA book that was fabulous on audio. I also got to meet the author, Phil Stamper, this month and he was great. In this post I want to talk about Kamila Knows Best which is a South Asian Emma retelling set in Canada. It also is a friends to lovers romance that I actually liked? This is not a trope that usually works for me, but wow the LONGING and the pining made me reconsider my prior stance on the trope!! Kamila and Rohan were such a joy to read about and I am so glad I listened to the positive reviews of this one and picked it up because it isn’t my typical read and I loved it!! The next book in the “series” releases in summer and I have an ARC that I am itching to read.

What was your favorite read this month?

xoxo, Bree & Tree
